Student Engagement Grant (SEG)

St. Philip's College is looking for excellent students who want challenging and rewarding extracurricular experiences while pursuing their college course work. The Student Engagement (SEG) Scholarship provides the opportunity to get involved with a special initiative, meeting other students, and developing a network of professional contacts. Financial support is provided to each student. Identify the extracurricular experience you are looking for and contact the SEG Project Director.

Description:The Center of Excellence for Science (CES) seeks funding assistance to engage St. Philip’s College students in motivational Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) outreach programs and activities that provides opportunities for positive outcome expectations. The student instructional and student research assistants (SIA/SRA) program began in 2017. Initial funding was with the CIMA grant for summer activities. Students assisted the Center of Excellence for Science in the execution and evaluation of its community outreach programs. Training will be provided for Zoom and Excel. Laptop loans will be made to students, if needed.

Description:The Math Research & Service Crew is a new program concentrating on supporting, engaging, and recruiting STEM students. Students are expected to complete 50 hours of research and service each semester. Purpose: Learning about engineering technology and data analysis; serving through peer tutoring, analyzing data, and clerical duties; plan/host some of the Engineering & Math Department and Centers of Excellence in Math collaborating events. Students will also gain access to academic advising, tutoring, and STEM-related opportunities as well as attend or volunteer at the SPC Golf Tournament.
